9 Life Hacks, Using Period Pads and Maxim Product!

Life hack to clean floors

In the spirit of #healthymenstruation and being a green feminine hygiene queen, we’ve compiled a list of life hacks for you, using leftover period pads and Maxim Hygiene products. It’s a great way to recycle unused and disliked products that have been sitting in the closet OR to use the ones currently sitting there after you decide to switch to Maxim Hygiene’s organic, all-natural products.

Hack #1: Use Pads to Clean Your Floors!

Say goodbye to damp hand towels and expensive Swiffer pads. Simply adhere pads to your palms using the adhesive backs and wings (or knee caps) and clean the floor with our heavy pads. Spray cleaning fluids directly onto the floor instead of the pads to save on quantity of cleaner used (as our pads are super-absorbent). Many household cleaning products have not been regulated or approved by the FDA and may have serious health side effects, explains Erin Switalski, previous Fierce Woman and Exectuive Director for Women’s Voices for the Earth, so make sure to use a natural cleaning agent too.

Hack #2: Make a No-Frills Sleep Mask

Forget about spending money on a sleep mask when you literally have a ten-count box sitting in your bathroom. Do the DIY basic – cut off the wings, stick two back-t0-back, poke a hole in each end, and simply use a string or rubber band tied together to hold your mask in place. If you want to spruce it up a bit, stick your pad to a a colorful piece of cloth you like for a design everyone can stare at while you get some sleep.

Hack #3: Make Your Own Monster Pad

Caught by surprise with a heavy flow day and all out of Super Plus Pads? No worries! Just layer two of our favorite pads together. Place one ultra thin winged pad on the panty first and then the classic contour pad on top! Or wear two heavies while you’re sleeping if you’re sure to move around and you want extra coverage in your underwear. If you’re prone to sleeping in the fetal position or curling your knees up when you sleep, you may be prone to leakage in the back. Don’t be afraid to create a T-shaped pad to protect your backside and more of your undies too!

Hack #4: Back Your Bed Up by Adding Some Protective Lining

Let’s face it- no matter how good a period product can be, leaks are inevitable, especially if you’ve got a heavy flow. The last thing you want to worry about when you’re already late for work in the morning is waking up to blood stains on your sheets or embarrassing laundry room encounters. Line your mattress with our Organic Cotton Cleansing Pleats and you’ll save a load of (and loads on) laundry!

Hack #5: Take a Menstrual Spa Day

Pad your tummy with our pads to create a protective layer and then, lay a hot water bottle on your tummy to soothe those abdominal and pelvic cramps. As an alternative, you can always turn over and adhere pads to the water bottle in case your back is where the pain is centralized. Other than using heat to naturally deal with PMS, you can try also try some topical salves to calm the cramps and then wipe them away with our pads to save ruining a hand towel.

Hack #6: Protect Your Floors with Pads

Since hard wood floors in fashion and life loves to throw us lemons, it only makes sense we protect our floors and furniture from whatever may come. Whether your chairs are likely to be pushed and dragged around by guests or your tables are likely to be knocked around in night-time romps, they can be easily protected and buffered by pieces of our pads. Save money and stick pieces of our heaviest pads to the bottom of furniture like dining room chairs. living room furniture, etc. to save your hardwood floors from scratches and sound-proof your home a bit more.

Hack #7: Create Emergency Flip-Flops

We totally stole this idea from Laverne Cox’s trans character in the hit Netflix show Orange is the New Black, but when in need, you can use duct tape to stick several Pads together to create emergency and water-repellent flip flops! Keep in mind, the more pads you use, the thicker the insulation will be for your feet.

Hack #8: Use that Gauze for First Aid

Store extra pads, bits of pad, and cut up pieces of pad in your first aid kit, instead of buying gauze. Keeping a mini pair of scissors in there will also give you the option to customize your bandages to the person in need. The benefits of having pads is their self-adhesiveness; you can also consider keeping tampons in there for nosebleeds (taking another genius idea from hysterical movie, She’s the Man.)

Hack #9: Help Your School Get FREE Pads!

Sign up for the Healthy Hygiene Project! Teachers get three free lesson plans to introduce children to the concept of organic sanitary hygiene products as well as sexual, reproductive, and menstrual health facts as well as the importance of being conscious of the environment. Students can earn CASES of free products for everyone to use and try but participating in our social media challenges as well.
