They say the healthiest way to keep your tummy full and not round is to eat several snacks during the day. The temptation with snacks is always that the tastiest snacks are sometimes the worst for us! Think about it – small packets of chips, little ice cream bars, brownie bites, and muffins. The list goes on.
Since we’re committed to keeping you and your kids healthy, we’ve decided to compile a list of three fun DIY snacks that are perfect for taking to school or chomping on while at your work desk!
Trail mix is one of the easiest snacks to make – you can put almost anything in it. And, you can slip in some sugary sweetness with M&Ms, chocolate chips, cranberries, candied nuts, or honey.
Slip in some oats, granola pieces, nuts, dried fruits and shake well!
2. DIY (Dehydrated) Fruit & Veggie Chips
Grab an Excalibur, or another dehydrator, and slice up your fruits. Excaliburs are great because you can stack levels upon levels of cut fruit, without taking up too much counter space.
Popular fruits include apples, bananas, kiwis, and cherries. Check out these tips & tricks when dehydrating! Feel free to throw these into your trail mix, too.
3. Fruit Kebabs
Popular at summer barbecues and Fourth of July parties, these snacks are quick, easy, and cheap!
Slice a few chunks of cheese, strawberries, kiwis, and any other exotic fruits you can get your hands on and slide ‘em on to long toothpicks or wooden skewers.
This snack is great for casual adult get-togethers too! Pair watermelon with stilton (or any of these wonderful “stinky cheeses”), mangoes with gruyere, and so on!
Beware, however, these aren’t the best snacks for being tossed around in kids’ backpacks! Pack ’em tight in a container that’s reusable and earth-friendly!
